This energetic and vibrant art by Salacia Celeste is an homage to Mughal Empire artwork ascribed to Rai Annup Chattar, c.1710. The Mughals were legendary patrons of the arts and sciences and the Mughal Emperor, Akbar, established a formal artistic studio where painters and calligraphers collaborated to produce illustrated manuscripts and individual work including portraits.

In the words of the artist, “My own image follows the format of the original although my preferred narrow paper meant that my Two Ladies are sitting much closer to each other. This new body language immediately brought a different dynamic to their conversation.
